Carol Wallace talk – Video

Carol Wallace, Lew Wallace’s great-great-granddaughter, visited Crawfordsville on September 8. She drew a record crowd for her discussion of Ben-Hur and growing up with the Wallace family legacy of writing. Carol graciously allowed us to broadcast her talk on Facebook Live, and we are posting the video here for future viewing.

To Marry an English Lord by Carol WallaceCarol has written more than twenty books, including most recently a historical novel, Leaving Van Gogh. She is the coauthor of the New York Times bestseller To Marry an English Lord, an inspiration for Downton Abbey. She holds degrees from Princeton University and Columbia University.

Carol Wallace talked about growing up with the Wallace heritage, writing as a family occupation, and Lew’s writing process. In addition, she discussed Ben-Hur‘s journey to becoming the best-selling novel of the nineteenth century.

Another highlight was what she was trying to accomplish in writing this new version of the novel to make it more readable. Listeners learned how she came to be involved in the new Ben-Hur project. She also shared about her visit to the set in Rome while the 2016 film was being produced.

The video can also be viewed on YouTube.

We hope to broadcast more of our lectures and talks on Facebook Live as technology allows more access to our programming. To watch our lectures as they are taking place, please follow us on Facebook.

Enjoy!
