The General Lew Wallace Study and Museum is one of Crawfordsville's most distinctive attractions. With the lure of the Civil War, the glamour of Ben-Hur, and the elegance of this fascinating 19th century Renaissance man, the Study hosts 3,000 local, state, national and international visitors annually. As a nonprofit member of the Parks and Recreation Department, it depends on usage fees, sales from the gift shop, and, most importantly, contributions from individuals businesses.
We are offering you and your company unique access to this beautiful 3.5-acre park, in exchange for a tax-deductible corporate gift of support. The number one reason to make a donation is because you want to preserve and grow this crown jewel of Crawfordsville as a significant historic site, educational resource and visitor destination. The most urgent need now is the preservation of the Carriage House on the study grounds and its transformation into an interpretive center, gift shop and meeting place. Corporations making gifts of $10,000 and more will receive naming opportunities in and around the Carriage House Interpretive Center upon its completion. All corporations making gifts can be assured that you will receive the recognition mentioned above for your gift level.
Other priorities include waterproofing our basement, which is filled with artifacts and collectibles, and the continued and improved cultivation of our gardens and outdoor exhibits. These exhibits will include a designation of the grave site of Lew Wallace's beloved horse, Old John, an excavation of the original moat and reflecting pool, and cleaning and preservation of the Wallace statue and west gate.
